Its Saturday morning in the Maritimes and I hope you are all out - TopicsExpress

Its Saturday morning in the Maritimes and I hope you are all out soaking up the sun. Just wanted to let you know that the Ice Bucket Challenge is going strong. To date, Canadians have raised . . . $11.5 million dollars for both research and client care in the provinces. Lots of people are reading articles about huge salaries and how much of the dollar actually goes to research. Be careful of the source of the articles, make sure it is not rumour, and there is a difference between what happens in Canada and in other countries. I can guarantee you that all of us across Canada try to keep to the 20% administrative expenses. And you have to understand that it does cost money to (a)raise money and (b) take care of your clients. Our salary costs in NS for instance include a full time client services manager who you all know does a fantastic job and a part time person (Cecil, also a super fellow) who takes care of our equipment and delivers it. That shows up as an administrative cost but it really is the cost of taking care of people with ALS. Then there is insurance, warehousing space for equipment, and so on. So just try and keep a balanced view. If you have any questions, please give me a call. Take care everyone and have a super weekend!
