Its Sunday. Time to get up and... ...yawn. Been up for hours. Yesterday and today Im not doing so well on the sleep thing. A few weeks back I made mention I was going to give Doctor Who only a couple of episodes to hook me as I was tired of Stephen Moffat trying to be so clever when he should be working on telling a good story. Well, the threat paid off. ;) This is the first season of decent Doctor Who stories since the man took over the series. Ive said it before. I loved Matt Smiths Doctor, but not because of anything Stephen Moffat did other than casting him. In fact, I know this is crazy and all, but Id swear the man was trying to kill the show because he didnt get his older man in the first place because the series was so tedious with Amy and the whole SIlence nonsense. And now we have Peter Capaldi. I didnt like Deep Breath. It was very slow and Moffat was spending too much time telling everyone to get a grip, youll like this guy. Why? Hes never apologized or explained his reasons for anything before, why start now? Anywho, after that first episode, things picked up. Inside the Dalek was not a great episode, but it had its moments. I think the scope of the show couldnt reach what the episode was trying to accomplish. Robot of Sherwood - not a Mark Gatiss fan, but I have to say I enjoyed this and his last outing as writer. Hes stopped trying to show how much he loves the show and how much he loves writing for past settings by simply telling his tale. And this was a fun one. Listen - Wow! Wow! I need to see this one again soon as I know Im missing things, but this episode shines not so much for Moffats writing, but if you didnt get Capaldi before, this hooks you into who he is. Time Heist - I was as excited as the Doctor when I saw what was happening here. And it was a fun ride. The Caretaker - I wished that RTD had done more like this with Christopher Eccleston when he set up his Doctors and Roses relationship. Kill the Moon - This episode had a little too much filler, but I loved the ending. I was fine with the moon breaking up as it was an egg. And I think that a new moon being left behind as a new egg was a nice touch. And I am so looking forward to Mummy on Orient Express. If its anything like Dinosaurs on a Spaceship, were in for some fun. And if youve never seen Doctor Who before, what are you waiting for? BBC America, Saturday night at nine. Netflix and Hulu for the rest of the current series. Youre welcome. Happy birthday to Dawn, Basil, and Gary. Enjoy the day. youtube/watch?v=BndH-iC-3eo
