St. Albert CIVC held its Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon on April 8 and had managed to bring in a special guest speaker -- two-time Olympic gold medalist for womens hockey, Meaghan Mikkelson! Early in her speech, Meaghan had some kind words for local youth Katie Fitzgerald -- who performed a musical set at the luncheon following a whirlwind trip to Ottawa the day before, where she had received an award from the Governor General. Its timely because both Meaghan and Katie have been in the news lately! Mikkelsons team has had a great showing on the The Amazing Race Canada (nevermind the trouble that a hockey challenge, of all things, gave them on Tuesday -- were still with you!).
