Its Thursday the 16th day of October, 2014. Its also Big Joe Williams Birthday. Joseph Lee Williams was born in Crawford, Mississippi, in 1903. Big Joe was a Delta blues guitarist, singer and songwriter, whoses distinctive sound came from his of nine-string guitar. His sound was gritty and intense. His first recording was with the Birmingham Jug Band in 1930, on Okeh Records. Big Joe signed with Bluebird Records in 1935 and stayed with them for ten years. It was there that he recorded such classics as Baby, Please Dont Go (1935) and Crawlin King Snake (1941). He also recorded with other Blues legends as Sonny Boy Williamson I, Robert Nighthawk and Peetie Wheatstraw. Big Joe was able to capitalize on the Folk/ Blues revival of the 1960s and 70s, playing in Europe and Japan. Big Joe Williams would leave us on December 17, 1982 in Macon, Mississippi.
