Its Wednesday and that means we feature a property For Sale in one of Readings Historic Districts. Today we feature 742 Centre Ave, located in the Centre Park Historic District. Designed by the Philadelphia architect Frank Furness in a high Queen Anne style, the home was built in 1897 for Matthen Harbster who along with his two brothers John and Samuel, founded the Reading Hardware Company. Also of interest, John Harbsters residence was also just on the market. The home features the classic Furness design of using layers of different building materials to show a variety of textures. The corner tower features a base of brownstone, followed above by a band of rusticated sandstone, followed by a band of smooth Terra cotta brick, and ending with a band of wood shakes.Over the years the property has featured several uses including a doctors office, hair salon, and research facility. Today, the home has been restored back as a residence to the time of its original construction in the 1890s.For more information please contact our Facebook page or call the listing realtor- Chris Miller, RE/MAX of Reading : 610 603-2676.
