Its a beautiful building. Hotels/pubs are apart of our Aussie Culture. A change of drinking and driving laws have changed the culture of the way of pubs being frequented. This has brought a consolidation to the existing pubs and the others if not being developed into apartments or have become large bottle shops. Which the market forces indicate people now drink in private homes. Hence has also brought the introduction of small beer and wine bars or the pubs becoming more like restaurants. I have grown up in the Bayside area and have great memories of the Hampton, Sandy and Beau and I hope our young generation can have the local good times as well in safe reputable venues. The market trend is all fair enough but we must put the brakes on before the ambiance and character of neighborhoods are destroyed. This is why we have street scapes, parks and heritage buildings that enhance our neighborhoods. The Edgy is in a high profile position and architecture with the palms look magnificent. The proposed development has come as a shock and I feel guilty that we only have a once a year meal there and a family drink with nachos. In an ever fast changing world we dont need a diminshing community socializing venues that have a great historic value. We are the lucky country, our Aussie community spirit character of mateship must be maintained. The amount of networking and business deals done the bar wouldve added to our economy. So leave your beer/spirit in the fridge and get off social media and head down to your local for some facetoface community spirit. Cheers
