Its a great big wonderful Monday morning! Ms Julia P Eisenstein was kind enough to stop by this am while on her way to Santa Fe for the oil and gas protest and then on to Albuquerque to deliver warmies for the Dine Long Walkers. I wish I could go with her. I am a wage slave and cog and must keep a roof over my head so off to work for me. But all this got me to thinking about the documentary Broken Rainbow. The Udall we have today wants to develop more oil and gas. The Udall in Broken Rainbow at 18:19 in the video is saying to the Dine, basically, to bad, suck it up, be an american and get out of our way. This is an intro to the video. I didnt write it. I dont know who did. On December 1974 Congress passed Public Law 93-531 The Navajo-Hopi Land Settlement Act. It authorized the partitioning of the Joint Use Area (JUA) and established the Navajo-Hopi Indian Relocation Commission (NHIRC) which moved Navajo people from the reservation lands. Countless of the most traditionally and culturally intact Dineh (Navajo) people were forced to re-locate to cities like Shiprock and Tuba City. This 1985 documentary traces the history of both tribes and the events that led to this devastating land grab by Peabody Coal and Bechtel Corporations, assisted by our own government(major players included Barry Goldwater,Morris Udall,John McCain, and President Ford). The goal: access to coal and uranium resources. Narrators include Martin Sheen, Buffy Sainte-Marie and Burgess Meredith. This documentary won the 1986 Best Documentary Academy Award, but youd be hard pressed to find it in video stores or on-line. https://youtube/watch?v=W5z8OgMfXXc
