Its a mistake to write this woman off as a lunatic. This particular quote is a succinct description of Manifest Destiny, or just about any other justification for centuries of Eurocentric conquest. The superior ability to lie, steal, and kill became a self-imagined genetic and spiritual superiority that was endorsed by both religious and secular (pseudoscientific) doctrine. This imperial and colonial justification evolved as an integral organ of Enlightenment and post-Enlightenment philosophy, and its still with us today. In a practical sense, Rands core beliefs remain popular even among many of those who reflexively reject her personality and her more popular writings.
