Its a pretty common question from my students, How do you stay so chill (laid back)? I read an interesting article recently about stress. Stress is destructive. It makes our immune system cells unable to respond properly. Stress stimulates a change in metabolism, produces a rise in insulin levels and a fall in fat oxidation. Stress aggravates sleep deficits which impairs memory and emotional control. Stress encourages cells to attach to blood vessel walls which results in plaque, a key marker of heart disease. Stress throws brain neurotransmitters out of balance, negatively affecting mood and leading to depression. Stress is a cause of stomach problems as well as back, neck and shoulder pain. Jesus said, Come to me all you who are weary and heavy-laden (stressed) ... and I will give you rest. We live in a world designed to overcome us with stress... Jesus says hell give us rest. I suppose the question is, do I believe the world... or do I believe Jesus? I believe Jesus.
