Its a pretty sad state of affairs when someone who is banging a drum and calling for others to dance along with him is frowned upon, treated only as novelty and discarded in this manner. How is it that weve allowed our collective spirits to be beaten down to the point where we see this guy as a threat that needs to be neutralised? Yeah, hes in his underwear and banging a drum in public. Weeeeeird, different and all those other cliche and segregative things that we tend to throw at folks who have the intestinal fortitude to do something outrageous which they could actually be arrested for these days. But what I see as weirder is the total disconnection that we as a population have to our spirituality and the things that our souls need in order to TRULY feel free within this institutionalised system of bondage in 2014. To possess any semblance of contentment or even the fabled happiness that advertising is trying to convince us is out there if we purchase their product. If weve already turned into that much of a complacent society then all is sadly, already lost. And buying loads of new shit isnt going to bring the feeling of being alive back! His means of gaining attention seems like a perfectly legitimate one in order to get any sort of point across to the oblivious and spiritually bereft masses of society who are inhabiting the planet today. Those who are totally ok with accepting that life as a series of occasions where one simply placates themselves by whatever means possible and consumes as much shiny new shit as they can whilst subconsciously awaiting the next religious based frenzy to whip up in the news to keep us all scared and at odds with each other. Therefore totally reinforcing in the inherent belief out there that the world is over and that the only salvation is through consumerism. And how no one should ever pop their heads up, speak out in dissension or show any individuality for fear of being persecuted and/or ostracised by all the other shiny-new-shit acquiring corpses who are taking up valuable drum beating and underwear dancing space! Whats wrong with a shock and awe campaign with the message of love and acceptance at its core? Weeeeeeeeeeeeird! Id dance along with him in a heartbeat! And if indeed there were some molotov cocktail inside the drum that exploded after a bunch of people gathered to join in then so be it! I would have already reconciled with the fact that at least Id have gone out with a bang (literally), and doing something that I chose to & that I loved more than anything in the world rather than being so scared by societies automatic suspicion of other people to the point where as I didnt take part in a golden opportunity to let go and remind myself that I am alive and chose rather to remain living in a society of fear! Or does slowly wasting away from cancer seem like a more attractive option to most? We need to face fear and know that there is really nothing to fear out there unless we allow it to thrive and give its insatiable appetite the credence it in no way, shape or form deserves! Moral of the story is: Sure, people are scared. But overcoming that fear is its own adventure. Challenge yourself and societies inherent beliefs and rule fear out of ruling your life. Get out there and register your protest to being held down by smiling politely at a stranger as you pass them by on the street and physically manifest a sense of community, freak out the emotionally numb and shake up the system by doing so. Our quality of life is what we make of it. Not what governments and the media machine would have us coached into believing it is! BEAT YOUR DRUM! Happy Friday to you! X - Ranty McRantington
