Its a sad morning here on Fort Street. We havent had a chance to take a breath or to update all of our friends on our status. For the past 10 or 12 years, we have found ourselves in a perfect storm ~ bad economy, peoples resistance to come into downtown Springfield, escalating prices and sluggish sales. We have been struggling to keep our beloved Student Prince afloat. The promise of at least three years of traffic congestion on Route 91 convinced us that the time had come to sail off into the sunset. The twins, my crispy lawn, the geese and especially my beautiful Bonnie are all awaiting me. This is going to be a very busy week as many of our friends want to come in for one last Spaten and schnitzel. If you are planning to join us, please call ahead for a reservation. We will be open our regular hours through Saturday. Sunday will be an open house where people can stop in and buy a beer or maybe a Chauvinette while enjoying some hors doeuvres. If youre coming in for lunch today, heres what were offering. Cream of cauliflower soup followed by a ham sandwich, baked corned beef and macaroni au gratin or a grilled salisbury steak with onion-pepper sauce. The desserts are lemon pudding and orange cake. We havent had a chance to respond to all of your wonderful messages. The phone has been ringing off the hook and we have a lot to attend to. Believe me, we appreciate all of your kind words and thank God for our wonderful friends.
