... Its a shame that evolution of seemingly popular opinion has resulted in powerless parental authority and the complete lack of discipline among our youth today. What was discipline back in the day (note: im not that old - see: 90s) is now apparently child abuse, and God forbid you discipline your child in public - or anywhere for that matter - for fear of litigation and societal scrutiny. The short but sweet solution would be for everyone to mind their damn business and ask themselves, Who am I to question someone elses parenting? Just because you have a differing opinion and practice on disciplining a child doesnt automatically devalue the opinion and practice of others. Sadly, people overstep their boundaries anyway. A lot of people claim to know and can readily identify when disciplining a child has gone too far... but can the same people identify when disciplining a child hasnt gone far enough? When its gone too far you get the child abuse claims, child protective services banging on your door, etc... But what happens when the discipline is ineffective? My thoughts: - Minors having leverage to sue their parents. - Cases where an affluenza defense has successfully gotten a minor sentenced to mere rehabilitation when he was drunk driving and was the cause of death for not 1, not 2, not 3, BUT 4 people. - Drug addicts, school shooters, mass murderers, the list can go on and on. I, Matthew C., started writing this as a simple Facebook rant, but Id like to solicit the comments and opinions of others. Please feel free to share and comment as you see fit. Thank you.
