Its a truth many of us dont like to admit, that in order to be a good writer you sometimes have to be a lousy person. But its true. You have to say no a lot. You have to hide from people. You have to disappoint family members, all in order to protect the process, meet deadlines, not lose the mojo when you have it. I just had to do this, by canceling my trip to NYC this week. There are many people probably not talking to me right now - all the ladies who are part of the Grand Central anthology, for instance, as I wont be there for the launch. But the writing is going so well now that I cant afford to step away from it for a week, then take another week to get back into it. Hence, Im being a good writer right now. But a lousy person.
