Its after 5 AM and I cant sleep. Came home from rehearsal, picked up my mail and wow, what dilemma was waiting for me in my mail box. Great subject for a play, but so out of the ordinary no one would believe it. Let me preface: Back in my post college days when I was poor I sold blood for money (thank you rare blood type) and yes, sperm to a sperm bank (dont judge, I was poor but have good genes, I was quite athletic, and high IQ). Back then you would sign a form saying that you would be anonymous as the donor, but you could agree (it was optional) that if any of the children you fathered ever want to inquire about their biological father they would contact the agency and they would forward the notification to me and I could accept or decline releasing my information with the contingency that the child would release his or her information too. The child would have to be over 21 to request this information. Apparently, I have a 26 year old son that is curious about his father. Thats all I know: Male, 26 years old. In all these years Ive never once received a notification and Ive basically forgotten all about it. (Including updating my address but they tracked me down.) since I only did it a couple of times. I cant get any other information about him unless I say yes and release my information. In other words we both have to say yes to the release of information and sign paperwork saying that there is no legal liability/medical/financial/responsibility/etc. between us. Hes apparently willing to release his information and done the paperwork. Its up to me now to do my part. What are the pros and cons? Im still so stunned at the notification I received in yesterdays mail I cant think about the pros and cons. My first impulse is to say yes because I am VERY curious, but is it a good idea? Im in a major quandary here. THOUGHTS?
