When cleaning an animal’s teeth, the most important area that is cleaned is underneath the gum line (subgingival). While it is simple to remove the calculus (tartar) and plaque off of the crowns of the teeth, the real disease lies beneath the gum line. Many people do not realize that this is important and so even if the teeth “look clean” it is important to have a dental cleaning performed to address the plaque and bacteria that are not visible.
