Its always worth noting how bravely the Polish people held out, longer against the combined might of the Soviets and Nazis than France against Germany alone. Free Poles also went on to score an incredible number of air kills during Battle of Britain. But Hitlers propaganda machine simply couldnt allow people to know that this humble nation had so bloodied his nose, so he began a campaign of lies to disparage the valor and tenacity of the Polish defenders. Because after the Nazis were defeated, Poland found itself under the boot of Stalins brutal dictatorship, the myth of Poles as incompetent fighters has survived for 70 years. We always try to remember the bravery of the Poles, and to tell this story if we hear someone repeat a Polish joke. Its just doing our bit to stamp out one of Hitlers most stubborn lies.
