Its an exceptionally accomplished photo from an exceptionally accomplished photographer. Peter Lik has been shooting for years and has exhibited in countless exhibitions, galleries etc and he has lots of awards. There is a formality and methodology to the composition and it is just hilarious when - as it is a naturally occurring phenomenon - people say oh i could have gone there & done that on my iPhone, but really, they couldnt have done. However I agree with a huge amount of the reaction to it which that it is, unfortunately, however technically accomplished it is, similar to a lot of other of his work, it is commercial, hackneyed, derivative - even quite a naff HDR-esque post-production - something you might find printed under gloss lamination in an eager 1st year philosophy students bedroom. I do think its quite an understandable furious, indignant reaction from the fine art community. However, bloody well done him. Take the money. Bet hes absolutely thrilled. So please buy all my limited edition prints.
