Its an interesting read, with an interesting perspective. The only part that I disagree with is the statement I am a liberal... I am a liberal. I believe that those of us who are able to produce abundance have a moral duty to provide basic food, shelter, and medical care for those who cannot care for themselves. I believe we have this duty even to those who can care for themselves but don’t. This world view requires compassion and a willingness to act on it. I am conservative. I believe that those who are able to produce should help those who cannot care for themselves; I believe that this is part of what makes America as strong as it is. HOWEVER, I do not believe that I have any responsibility for someone who can care for themselves but dont or wont. he is right, compassion and a willingness to act on it is important, BUT, handouts do more damage when given to people who just want free stuff; I am, and always have been, more than willing to help people that genuinely need it when I am able... I cannot in good conscious give a freebee to someone who can help themselves, but are unwilling to do so.
