Its becoming quite clear that the State of Ohio is going to keep placing regulations on child care centers. Some of these new rules are good and long overdue. Others, force us to lose sight of what we are doing...keeping children happy and safe. Over the past 27 years, I have cared for children in our county. I was pretty young when I started and had no real experience; just a fresh new teaching degree in my back pocket and a sincere love of children. Ive seen the good and the bad and yes...the very bad in this business and when I started Kids Only my goal was pretty simple....Kids Only kids will be treated the way I would want someone to treat my children. It seemed common sense to me, now I know..it was a pretty novel idea. Now all these years later, the State keeps making up new rules new guidelines until my staff is stressed and buried in paperwork! Im wondering...are we losing sight of what is important here? Human kindness...human contact...and the very old fashioned idea that CHILDREN CAN LEARN WHILE THEY ARE PLAYING! Did you know the State is going to start tracking three year old test scores? In the coming months I have some hard decisions to make as far as the direction the Kids Only centers take. I can promise you this...I will make these decisions with my staff...I will decide based on the needs of the people I work for...my Kids Only kids...and I will do what is best for them and no one else. It is my hope that our clients will trust and support us through this process. Ask a kindergarten teacher... Our kids are always ready for school, they always will be and....they will be able to play and socialize appropriately because PLAY IS A GOOD THING!
