Its been 18 months and the Delhi MCD led by BJP never distributed pensions to senior citizens and widows. Around 40,000 old-age pensioners, come under economically-weaker section and they just survive on these pensions. BJP Delhi East mayor Meenakshi surprisingly said that the MCD is helpless and that there are no funds. She says she met several union ministers and officials of the Delhi government led by LG for early release of funds. The MCD gives Rs 1,000 a month to around two lakh widows, senior citizens and disabled people. The beneficiaries of the pension scheme are selected based on a recommendation by the councillor and many say that these funds are being diverted for other purposes. Yeah, no funds! 12 crores were spend on the Delhi MCD website and where can the funds be?
