Its been 3 weeks since my Dad passed away. Still doesnt seem real. I talk to my mom pretty much every day, sometimes more than once because, well, I want to. Before my Dad passed, we had a routine when Id call home. It went like this... I would be talking to my mom and Id hear my Dad yell in the background, who are you talking too!!??. Shed say Its Julie. Then she would say to me, here, say hi to Dad. So he would get on the phone and Id hear him adjust his hearing aid (sqeeek, sqeeek) and hed say hello? and Id say hi Dad. Id hear some adjustments again from the hearing aid sqeeeek, squeeeeek. Hed say again hello? and so Id say louder Hi Dad!. Then hed go into his routine that he always did when we first got on the phone together. Who is this?, which I know he knew was me because my mom just told him it was me. Id say Its Julie. Then gruffly hed say Julie who?. Then Id say Julie, your daughter. Then hed bounce into his happy voice and say ooooooh, its Julie Pooley, hi Juuulieee. It was never a long conversation, because he had a very difficult time hearing on the phone, but Id get a brief update on how he was doing (always fine) and then he always managed to get an update on every single one of my kids. Yep, I miss that!
