Its been 30 days so of course Ive written a new Letter to The PGraph! The sillies in the Editorial Room are gonna have a hard time decidin if Im dead-serious w/ this one- or if Im writing it in jest. :-) All agree the GOP needs re-branding. We need a re-packaged image to stay relevant, attract voters, and WIN ELECTIONS. The same-old/same-old aint working. But no one puts forth ideas- not one realistic plan for true change is ever introduced. Just how long do my fellow-conservatives think our party can continue to survive? Do we WANT our party to keep losing elections? Do we WANT to go the way of the dinosaur into EXTINCTION? Because thats the direction were heading. I have an idea! Roll your eyes and snicker all you want, but I WONT sit idly by... I want to go down on public record as having said: We need to hire GAY folks as image consultants to re-brand the GOP! I know, I know... (No I havent lost my mind!) Consider... For 40+ yrs. gays sought more rights. We marched, we petitioned, we pleaded, we even DEMANDED. Nothing. So we sat silent for a period. Then we re-emerged, w/ a fresh strategy. And in ONE DECADE we now serve in the military, exercise parental rights through adoption, are achieving civil unions and marriage legislation coast to coast! An utter MIRACLE in overcoming age-old stigma and archaic belief systems. This gay guy says if a room-full of foo-foo excitable-types like me can play a role in turning things around and creating the image-changing that our particular tribe needed, we CERTAINLY can do it for a gaggle of tired old stale curmudgeony conservative politicians TOO!
