Its been 40 years since painter and muralist Thomas Hart Benton died on January 19, 1975. His iconic American images often included themes of industry, social strife, and nostalgia for pre-industrial times; thus the natural world often played a central role, whether it was a peak or field of wheat. He was heavily influenced by Mexican muralist Diego Rivera, which one can see clearly in the choice of vivid colors.
