Its been a busy morning! Say hi to our newest arrival, the very handsome Buddy! It seems that every Christmas a labbie that needs a little extra help finds their way to us! Buddy was impounded at Hawkesbury. When his owners were notified they surrendered him for being extremely storm phobic. Essentially they signed his death warrant. The pound cant in all good faith rehome a dog they have been told throws themselves at glass and gets out of colourbond fencing. So they ring me. My first thought is you have gotta to be kidding?! We have massive storms forecast here for over the weekend and I have rural fencing, seriously? Anyway after a few more questions I was told Buddy wasnt injured and wasnt a frequent flyer at the pound. Had his family exaggerated? We decided wed find out. We picked Buddy up earlier today and truthfully theres a few things I can do straight up just to improve Buddys lot in life! After he met the residents, NN was quick to want to tell me Buddy was drinking from his bowl before Buddy went on to meet the rest of the rescue crowd. It was easy to see hes overweight, covered in fleas and has ear problems. I never understand how people expect dogs to be well behaved and relaxed when their basic needs are not being met. Can you imagine how uncomfortable it would be to be infested with fleas? Over a long period? For a $20 fix its the one thing that irks me even after all these years. Buddy had lunch so he could have a comfortis which will start killing those fleas almost immediately. If youve never seen a dog with a flea infestation check out Buddys bath water, the blood from the flea dirt still impresses me as much as any crime scene has! I washed Buddy three times and I was done! Hell need another going over in a few days. I have to tell you he LOVED it! Such a nice change from Junior! After his bath Buddy got a LabraDOG Rescue collar, a FURminate and we did our best to clean up his sore ears. It actually looks like he has something other than a traditional infection because the ear is gooey not gunky so we will get that looked at in the morning. All in all though now we will Thundershirt him up and wait for the storm to hit! Paws crossed its not as bad as his family said. I think Buddys Christmas will be pretty Merry!
