Its been a hard summer. As a long-time campaigner on Palestine, the visceral anguish of witnessing the catastrophe in Gaza has left me largely, and regrettably, untouched both by normal Edinburgh festival frivolity and all the political frisson that is building ahead of the Scottish referendum. However, I have just completed a short film that I intend to be my last on the subject for a while. I have put a great deal into it and, for now at least, it has exhausted my creative reservoir. Based on a demonstration last week in Glenrothes, the piece functions as a broader call to direct action, highlighting not only the nature of Operation Protective Edge but the thinking that underpins it. In so doing, the complicity of companies like Raytheon stands starkly before us, and I hope to use the bravery and commitment of activists past to ignite a belief that we really can do something about it......either directly or through the mobilisation of support for those who do. Please share this widely, as I believe, and hope, it has a galvanising and inspiring force that might affect many.
