Its been a long, fun, great run, but this is the last year I will - TopicsExpress

Its been a long, fun, great run, but this is the last year I will be attending the annual Chicago Tardis convention. My fifteenth and final year. Why? I love Doctor Who more than ever, but the prices, between my reserved membership ($180.00) and a photo op with Billie Piper ($60.00) are rapidly exceeding anything I can afford. A photo op with Billie Piper, Noel Clarke, and Camille Coduri would have cost $125.00. That is $50.00 more than it cost last year for a photo with Paul McGann, Peter Davison, and Colin Baker! This doesnt include staying at the host hotel (Which Im not, at $106.00 per night). I will be commuting in daily since I live near the hotel. I know this is nothing for folks with boatloads of disposable income, but I dont have boatloads of disposable income. I guess nobody even blinked when the Matt Smith/Karen Gillan VIP package at this years Wizard World/ComicCon this past summer came in at $ 535.00. I guess nobody but me. I couldnt afford that, and I cant realistically splurge on Chicago Tardis after this year. I am very sad. Are these current and former Who stars making so little money that they have to further rifle through fans pockets? With David Tennant reportedly making $100,000 (!!!) for a two day event in the UK last year, I can see where this is going. So after this one, sadly, with great resignation, so long and good night to the world of Doctor Who conventions.
