Its been a really bad day for Eileidh today :( She has spent - TopicsExpress

Its been a really bad day for Eileidh today :( She has spent nearly the whole day moaning & crying, escalating throughout the day til she was screaming with pain tonight. The pain team came to see her earlier & she has been put on an NCA (nurse controlled analgesia) morphine infusion. The dentist came this morning to treat her with the laser. They did the insides of her top & bottom lip, inside her cheeks, at the back of her throat & the outside of her throat. Unfortunately, because shes neutropenic, it will probably take a few days to work. If it helps her, they will come back & treat her again. She did manage a little smile today when Laura & Gracie popped past & stood at her window, speaking & playing with her. Eileidh also had to try the tinted lip balm Laura got for her (since Eileidh tried to magpie her lipstick out of her bag a while ago lol). They also got her a little butterfly toy that flutters about on your hand. Shes not entirely sure about it though. She likes to look at it but gets a bit freaked out when she holds it. Her blood levels have been dropping over the past few days. Her haemoglobin has dropped from 91 to 77 since yesterday so she is currently having a blood transfusion (red blood cells). Her platelets have dropped from 83 to 38 since yesterday so its looking like a platelets transfusion for her tomorrow. Eileidhs temperature has been spiking on & off today, the highest being 38.7 so far. The doctor put her on fluids this morning after checking her capillary refil, which was 3 seconds (pressing on her with a finger/thumb to see how long it takes to go back normal colour). She has also had IV paracetamol to bring her temperature down. Her temperature has started to go up again so she will be under close observation for the night & a SATS monitor has been attached to her toe too. She hates the SATS monitor! She is currently hooked up to TPN, Lipid, Nutrini - 24 hour (was night) feed, red blood cell transfusion, NCA morphine infusion & fluids. Her bed looks like spaghetti junction with all the lines there are. The transfusion is due to finish about 9pm so that will be one less. One good thing is that she hasnt been sick today. She had her Ondansatron, Metoclopramide, Ursodeoxycholic Acid & Aciclovir as usual, which didnt make her gag or vomit. Thats the first time since Friday, I think. Its been a very long & tiring day for both of us so my brain isnt functioning properly at the moment. Eileidh has finally gone to sleep, although she is still whimpering whilst asleep. Shes exhausted because everytime she has tried to sleep today, she has been woken up in pain :( Fingers crossed she stays settled for the night & that the morphine infusion keeps the pain at bay for a while. The pain team are coming back to check on her in the morning, just in case its not enough for her. Time for a long overdue coffee for a very tired mum, whos feeling completely helpless :(
