Its been a very long two days. Mom and I were just talking and decided we wanted to make sure everyone was on the same page about dad. The hospital decided it was time to stop treatments because they were no longer beneficial to dad, after losing close to 20lbs in just a couple weeks and because the fluid theyve been draining from his belly has cancer cells in it as well. We contacted the hospital in Chicago to get a second opinion (mostly because Im very stubborn...I get it from my dad). They said they felt comfort measures were the most appropriate at this time as well. We were hoping to get a good couple months after stopping treatment but it seems that dad had other plans. Yesterday started out a relatively decent day and got progressively worse. Last night was tough and dad hasnt had any improvement. We have been surrounding ourselves with family and friends and want everyone to know you are welcome to come over. That being said, we understand many of you are very busy, not all of you live close and with school starting up it may be difficult. We also understand that some of you prefer to remember dad as he was and not in this state and there are no hard feelings. Everyone deals with these situations differently and we certainly are in no position to judge. Please know that you are welcome here. We will laugh with you and cry with you. We will joke and smile and tell stories and hug. Each and every person who visits this page should know that in one way or another my dad cares about you and loves you. He has always been so thankful and appreciative of the gracious support you all have shown him and the rest of my family. I know for certain we could not have held it together as a family for this long without so much love from you all and please know without a doubt that it has not gone unnoticed. If you have any questions or would like to stop in but arent sure where mom and dad live or are concerned that it may not be a good time, please feel free to contact mom or me. Again, we are so thankful that God has brought such a supportive and fantastic group of people into our lives. Also, mom wanted me to add that yes you are all welcome but please dont just walk in if the front door isnt open. You might be unpleasantly surprised, but you can still knock or call. :o) Please know that time is short and we dont anticipate dad being with us much longer. We love you!
