Its been a while since I have written, and I know my last post was such a downer. I really did feel so much better after I got it all out. Lol! I guess I was just overwhelmed by the hospital stay and Bill getting sick again. I got lots of great feedback, and I am so amazed that so many people care about litte ol me! Someone did write that when something bad happens, it means that something really good will follow, and that is definitely the case. Weve had some really exciting things happen this week, and its just a testament to Gods role in all of this. First, Bill is doing really well. His body is coming alive, like all the flowers and plants that are popping up all of the place. I really dont look at him as a poor little handicap guy, (even though it may have sounded that way in my last post). My take on his situation is something more like he had a seed planted in his body, and right now, it is our job to love it, nourish it, and mold it into the beautiful creation that is yet to come. Ill never forget when I was a kid, and we got to plant a bean in a styrofoam cup at school. It was so amazing to me that a hard, dried up bean, could transform into something so different than what it was. I was instantly hooked! I dont know how many beans I planted after that, but Im pretty sure we had a bean forrest growing around the house. To me, Bill is like that bean I planted as a kid. Everyday, I wake up and peek in on him, excited to see the new growth that took place over night. And you know what....he never disappoints me. I swear that I fall more in love with him everyday. I am so blessed and so honored to be the one God chose for him. I cant even explain it! Secondly, while Bill was in the hospital, struggling with those dang phantom pains, I thought back on a video someone sent me a while back about virtual phantom pain therapy. I have searched hours upon hours, and there is nothing (at least at this time) that can eliminate phantom pains. Ive talked to a lot of amputees, and they all have ways they cope, but everyone has told me that there are just time when the pain is so intense that it knocks them to their knees. So, after watching him wreathe in pain, despite the pain meds., I knew I had to go beyond my normal search. I went back and found that video news clip, learned the name of the University where the study was done, and looked up their website. I did my best to choose who I thought was the correct person to contact, and I sent an email............to SWEDEN!!!! The next day I got a response! I had not contacted the right person, but she forwarded my email to the guy I needed to talk to. He wrote me back, asked me some detailed questions about Bills muscles, etc. I was so afraid to tell him that he had a brain injury, because I didnt think he would be interested in helping us. After sending him my responses to his questions, I prayed to God, and asked him to either open this door or close it. About 4 days later, I got a reply. Heres where God shows off......He told me that he felt like Bill would be a good candidate for the study, but that theyve so far only done the arms. (Which they have had amazing results, BTW) Not to worry though, they are about to launch a study on the lower limbs, and that hes coming to Dallas in July and wants to meet with us. What are the odds that this guy from Sweden, who runs this amazing, ground breaking study on phantom limb pains, is coming to Texas in July.......and wants to meet with Bill. I almost fainted! Like Ive been saying since the beginning...I will go to the ends of the earth to help my man. The seed has been planted, and God is providing everything we need by way of prayers, nursing care, Leslie (our amazing case manager), volunteers, FAMILY, the brother and sisterhood of the fire department, love and so much more. Bill and I love Spring because the brown, ugliness of winter starts transforming into the most beautiful time of the year. My beautiful man is starting to blossom! I cant wait to see what tomorrow holds.
