Its been a while since I wrote a production story BUT Im back with a fresh one! As most of you that have been following me for a longer period know... Ive always tried to be diverse. My discog has 128 productions, 130, 132, 133.. 135 but also 138. Ranging from tech trance, progressive trance, vocal to uplifting trance. This because I love all aspects of trance music or what I experience as Trance.. and not liking to put limitations on myself.. + I hate boxes (unless theres a present inside and under a x-mas tree with my name on it) Last year (around august) I all of a sudden noticed that I was getting more and more back in to pounding trance again. More energetic, more tech and uplifting. There has been a long period in which I was searching for my musical self. Do I produce 130, 133, 135, 138.. if so, what direction, .. deep, dark, tech, uplifting, happy, emo...which do I combine? Yes, my mind can go to 2329203 different places in a split second. I basically did it all….had to get it out of my system. Everybody makes choices, some good.. some bad. Obviously, I can only speak for myself and Im not here to judge others. I couldnt care less if somebody else does better then me or gets an event over me or whatever. I dont even follow it to be honest because it distracts me from what I should be doing.. making music and be and stay positive. Jealousy, an ego and envy will bring you nothing but headache and therefor I only focus on positive things and the things Im doing. If friends do well, Im happy for them. An example, when Morph had to play Madison Square Garden in NYC for ASOT I sent him a txt message before he went on stage that went like this of course I have a healthy dose of jealousy.. every artist wants to be in your shoes right now, but I hope you have a great set and knock em out over there It turned out that I was the only one who wished him good luck. Im not trying to big up myself, just trying to show you how I stand in life and or my professional life as an artist and I really wish my friends well. The only thing I can do as an artist is learn from the mistakes I make and move forward and make sure I get in to a similar position with my music and sets. To be honest, Ive done a few sets in the past that if Id hear em back Id probably cri evertiem or get a nervous breakdown hahah. You live and learn. Non of that anymore. At the beginning of this year when I was producing Gravity I already had the feeling and extreme urge to pound it out again in the studio. Proper driving uptempo tracks. Renew / update/ take back my older sound and go for it. But this doesnt happen over night. This brings us to In A Perfect World with Standerwick. Im the last who would have expected this collaboration, but after meeting each other for the first time in Amsterdam during the FSOE vs Subculture weekender and shortly after that again in Poland at an event we both played at.. It seemed like a good idea to stay in touch. .. And so we did. After a few chat sessions and discussions about music we decided to do a track together and see how things would work out. Sometimes when you do a collaboration it turns in to a situation in which you do nothing but making compromises. We had non of this during the production process of this one. It all went down really easy ( I should say rielly… really.. doh!) Standerwick is a cool guy and easy to deal with which is awesome. After finishing a version that was ready for a floor test we decided to send the track to John OCallaghan. Johns feedback is always on the money. If theres one guy who knows his music.. its him. He instantly told us he wanted the track for Subculture. He played the V1 at Tomorrowland (second weekend) and I was there to witness it. Went back in to the studio, spoke to Standerwick and said we needed to tweak the mix here and there. After this was done the V2 was born, the version played out at the FSOE 350 and Subculture events. Worked like a charm, but the V1 was better. Changed it back, tweaked the mix more and it was ready for mastering and the rest is history. In A Perfect World is still going strong and back at nr7 today in the charts. Thank you all for the amazing support on this one and I hope youve enjoyed another one of them stories :) https://soundcloud/siedvanriel/preview-sc
