Its been an all-day music day for me today. Spending quiet time alone with some of my favorite songs, singers, musicians, composers, arrangers and yes, the recording engineers and producers who helped bring this music to life. Im especially remembering my Grammy Award-winning hero, Roy Halee, and the incredible engineering he performed for Simon and Garfunkel. Most notably Bookends and then Bridge Over Troubled Water in 1970 and, of course, The Boxer, with drums miked in an elevator shaft to get that slam and echo effect. But one of my favorites of his is this next one where you can here him bring out different instruments during the refrain including the pipe organ which would normally overshadow all the other instruments. But here, each one gets a chance to be heard and appreciated. Not to mention Art Garfunkels amazing, angelic voice. https://youtube/watch?v=VNJVz2Rg-4c
