Its been two weeks since I got back from the 2014 Trans-Provence, which has given me a bit of time to reflect on the 6 days in the mountains. Its no normal race; there is a real camaraderie that formed over shared adventure with the other competitors, the organisation and food was fantastic, and the weather was outstanding. And then theres the terrain itself. From alpine tussock, to deep forest loam, rocks, to steep loose rocks, switchbacks, bike park trails, more rocks, trails that challenge your ideas of what you can ride, breathtaking views, cliffside trails, and, of course, rocks. The liaisons between special stages werent filler either; some of the most amazing views and peaceful single track ribbons were liaison routes. Even the big climbs were worth it - a real reminder that life is to be made the most of, and that the best rewards arent the ones that are easy to find. Basically, it rocked. New friends, six days of amazing riding, lasting memories, it was totally life affirming. An at-least-once-in-a-life experience. I hope to get back for a second try at some point. There, I got all the way through without using the word epic. So you can get an idea whats involved, heres a highlight reel from the week vimeo/transprovence/tp2014highlights
