Its clear that the author of the Odyssey was certainly familiar - TopicsExpress

Its clear that the author of the Odyssey was certainly familiar with every nuance of the author of the Iliad. So, they were probably the same person. It is also clear from the astronomy mentioned in the Odyssey that that author lived most, if not all, his life in the SE Augean Sea area, just as tradition says that Homer did. The author of the Iliad is indeed familiar with bronze-age military warfare and the healing arts. He even shows some knowledge of naval operations. I suggest that he was a military-doctor-turned-poet. The author of the Odyssey also conveys his knowledge of bronze-age military tactics and medicine. In fact, I think that the Odyssey is largely a story about a war hero returning home after a very horrific war experience, post traumatic stress disorder, and how he had to go on a 10-year journey first before returning to Ithaka to his wife Penelope. He needed the post-war diversion with the Cyclops (unplanned, of course, ha, ha), Circe, and Calypso before returning to the familiarity of home, with his wife, else, he might have killed her, still stressed over having killed so many Trojans. Again, this is a sign that the author of the Odyssey was a military doctor, with his specialized knowledge of these areas; hence, the same person. So, Im convinced that the same person wrote both the Iliad and the Odyssey and why not call him Homer as Greek tradition does? What other name would matter?
