Its clear to me that my lovely Dave is starting to slow down to the point that I have now had to speak to my 8 year old daughter about his imminent end - i am so gutted - one minute he is stealing food and being his usual cheeky self - the next he is staring at walls or falling down - he is fairly confused, incontinent and on his way...at least thats what Im seeing. So far, no signs (by me or vet) that he is in pain or suffering in any physical way, other than becoming more unsteady on his feet, blind in one eye and almost completely deaf and I hope that we are not being selfish keeping him around as he still enjoys food and has mischief about him BUT... what I was wondering was, does anyone have any experience/advice about saying goodbye/dealing with the loss of a pet and a child of 8 or whatever???? I warned her when the vet warned me but that was over a year ago and now at almost 17 years old i really do think his days are numbered, i will be heartbroken and I would love to know if anyone can help me to ensure my daughter isnt so devastated that she refuses to have more dogs / pets in the future....I have a lot of mates who will never have pets again because the loss was too much for them to bare as children etc. Thanks, Kirsty X
