Its confirmed- the trendy train has left me behind, wearing nothing but loose-fit, boot-cut, stone-washed, cuff frayed jeans, Target hoodie (found in an inconspicuous clearance pile next to the oversized Hawaiian print shirts), and flip flops. After teaching middle school students and being surrounded by hip UCLA students for the last several months, Ive come to accept that the skinny jean is here to stay. I lived in an era where the pant was the roomy refuge that housed the leg comfortably, and this was the widespread norm. Today, the current dress and decorum resembles some variation (or hybrid) of Bruno Mars and Prince (formerly known as the Artist, formerly known as Prince). My resistance to this trend puts the nail in the coffin- I am old, dated, and uncool. If I had my way, the perpetual dress code for men would be modeled after the Fresh Prince (seasons with the original Aunt Viv only, of course.) All girls would dress like DJ or Stephanie Tanner. Not Michelle, because she was too progressive. Not Kimmy Gibler either because of her infamously smelly feet. In conclusion to this mindless rant, even if I wanted to try to fit in, I could never fit my non-skinny leg into one very skinny pant. Only one man could so suavely execute this style- Joseph Arellano. #30yearoldissues #lapsesinvanity #getoveritoldman #maybeiwasntcooltobeginwith
