Its crazy I took a Kansas city boy and brought him to dirt roads. .. now he complains the Grandview triangle & Lees summit traffic! Hes realized there is a whole world or there you dont learn about in books. Being a farmer is beyond hard work. Its 24 hrs a day/7 days a week. Its about creating your entire life around the needs of the land, the livestock & the life you create. Its the biggest responsibility anyone could take on. Its waking up at 2a.m. to check cows in 10 degree weather. .. and bringing home a new calf 1/2 frozen to save its life. Its driving a tractor for so long to finish up planting season. .. that you talk about it in your sleep. Its working a 8+ hr shift, then going home to work til dark (or later) @ your second job. Sure you are the boss. .. but its you against mother nature & shes one hell of a CEO! Its never getting to take a real vacation... Theres No H.R. deptment too complain to... Theres noone handing out raises or a overtime check.. & no such thing as PTO time, no workmans comp!!! Sure people farm to make a living, but its also providing food for everyone in this nation. What if every farmer was gone? Where in the world do people think their food would come from? even for PETA people. .. Where do rice, oats, barley, wheat come from??? FARMERS!!! I for one dont want all my food shipped from China!!!!! farmers are just like stock brokers, they know they have to diversify their efforts to make it 12 months a year! I know how hard these people work. .. & I fully admit I couldnt do it. But Im damn sure proud of my family and the way i was raised. I consider myself blessed.
