Its devastating to hear the news about Robin Williams. Its even more devastating to see all of the ignorant negativity people are expressing towards him. Comments like suicide is taking the easy way out or only weak minded people foolishly kill themselves. Or this is what happens when you take the dramatics too far. are completely ignorant. There are people in this world who have never experienced any form of depression and for that, I envy you. Those who have been able to live life without any darkness and carefree emotions, I envy you. But I WILL NOT envy the ignorance affiliated with those gifts. Depression is a mind, body and soul disease that sucks every ounce of being from the inside out. It is an everyday day, minute by minute struggle that even on your best days, is hard. Even with all of the treatments available and there are a lot, its a battle. Being depressed DOES NOT make you weak minded. It makes it difficult to feel strong. I know what its like to have to take life day by day because depression and anxiety are crippling. I know what its like to smile and laugh on the outside but feel like you are decaying on the inside. I know what its like to not have the strength to get out of bed some days but set myself on auto pilot to get through. but even in my hardest moments, I will be damned if someone confuses it for weakness. In order to stop tragedies like suicide people must be educated and respectful. Stop making each other feel alone. Surround yourselves with people who love you. People who support you no matter what and with hope and love maybe strength will follow. Never give up on others especially yourself. Talk about your thoughts and feelings. Silence is a killer. And lack of understanding and willingness to listen is a choice.
