Its done! (Except for putting the gutters back up, removing the rotted roof over the fire escape, the windows, the chimney braces, and the exterior of the Dugan building next door -- all projects for the near or medium future.) We are very happy with the job done by Mark Schlehofer, the painter. We included his sign among these photos. The Museum raised $15,000 in the form of small donations from the community (thank you to everyone who donated in amounts from $10 up to several hundred dollars, especially those who attended Sue Johnsons backyard party a year ago, Sue and her husband Dennis OBrien for throwing the party, those who donated to last years annual appeal, those who attended last Januarys Snow Ball, and the Willimantic Brewery and Main Street Cafe for brewing and selling a special beer as a fundraiser, hosting two FILL-anthropics, and hosting a special history night with Bev York). A very special thank you to the annonymous donor who matched that $15,000. You have chosen not to make your name public, but we could not have done it without you. You are wonderful! When all is said and done, the full cost of painting the building and related carpentry will be a few thousand dollars more. So the Museum will be sponsoring a few retire the debt fundraisers to make up the difference and replenish our savings. In meantime -- everyone enjoy. Withe the restored Windham Mills and Garden on the Bridge across the street -- and all the good work the town of Windham is doing on nearby Recreation Park -- Willimantic now has the eastern gateway it deserves. And if you happen to see the Museum gloeing softly in the west light of late afternoon, know that she in gleaming in joyful pride. She is a beautiful building.
