Its drilled into potential officers in the academy, that they are the face of the law, therefore the law, and their authority is absolute. Once they engage in an action, no matter how ignorant, theyre to see it through. Us vs them (cop vs civilian) is drilled into your head, even before you take the civil servants exam. This is by no means right, but you should understand that an officer isnt going to go away, even if youve proven lawfully that youre in the right. Police officers are taught that they are always right, and what they say goes.
