Its exactly 3 days since I watched this gem of a Marathi movie by name Fandry and I am still shaken by its raw power and the sense of realism it portrays consistently throughout the movie. It deals with an young boy, from a lower caste, who falls for his classmate, who happens to be a from a higher caste. Being lower caste and way below poverty line, his family is into all sorts of least respected jobs including catching pigs. He finds ways to impress his muse, including working hard for new clothes, while his parents work hard to earn money to get their daughter married. The movie deals so well with his aspirations, quest and his anguish in the backdrop of his familys struggle for a respectable future. Will he be able to win the girl of his dreams is something you need to find out by watching the film! The sense of realism reminded me of The 400 blows, one of the best french classics, though there is no true connection between these two movies (or perhaps there is from the way I see them)!
