Performing at the V&A Waterfront Amphitheatre on Wednesday, 17 December, from 4.45pm, this folksy, one-of-a-kind duo combines their vocal strengths and differences into special performances that are tailor-made for each audience. Down-to-earth in person and captivating on stage, these soulful songstresses are a potent combo. Following Laurie and Josie’s performance, Paige Mac takes the stage at 5.30pm on Wednesday, 17 December, treating the audience to progressive, acoustic soul sounds, with an edge of folk rock. Paige Mac’s ability to cross cultural and age boundaries means that her varied music has something for everyone to enjoy. Rounding off the evening at 6.30pm on Wednesday, 17 December, is Digby and the Lullaby, who return to Cape Town after sold-out shows across the country to treat V&A Waterfront visitors to a captivating blend of indie folk music, as well as their own stories and anecdotes between songs. The band loves theatre culture and aims to bring a little to their shows, focusing on engaging with their audiences and taking them along on the band’s journeys. V&A Waterfront visitors will be treated to back-to-back performances on Thursday, 18 December, kicking off with an enthralling performance by Deslynn at 5.30pm. Deslynn, known musically by her first name only, is versatile and energetic in her shows. Her deep love for music began in primary school when she started playing the recorder, but grew to see her studying vocal performance at the Campus for Performing Arts in Cape Town, under the guidance of vocalist Claudia Mohr and Goldfish’s Emily Bruce. Following Deslynn’s soulful performance, CODA steps up to the microphone at 7.15pm on Thursday, 18 December. Featuring Zami Mdingi on vocals, Galina Juritz on the electric violin, Carol Thorns on the electric cello, Judy Brown on the saxophone, and DJ LuvChild, CODA combines electric strings with saxophone and DJ sounds to create an ensemble that traverses different genres from classically-inspired ballads to electro-swing, dub step, reggae, and hip-hop beats. The band has performed internationally, and is releasing their much-anticipated new album this year. Their biggest singles, including ‘Go Insane’ and ‘It’s Still the Music’, are sure to rock the V&A Waterfront Amphitheatre.
