Its funny how a brief song, Reflections by The Supremes can bring back a memory of the TV Show China Beach. But then how watching a clip of this late 80s early 90s TV drama about the Vietnam War makes me thankful for my mother Jean Uhr. Not just for her service in the US Marines during the Vietnam War, but also how she chose to expose my sister Elizabeth Anne) and I to that war. It was through a TV show that featured a strong female lead at the heart of the war. So many more thanks to her. I came out of my childhood having a much better grounding in the military, of the challenges of gender equity among other things. Thanks Mom! If you havent seen the show I suggest you check it out.
