Its funny how meat being unattainable was restricted to the aristocracy and the gentry while the peasants had to do with various fruits and vegetables with even milk and eggs were rendered as luxuries. This was the Middle Ages and it persisted well into the Early Modern period! Well, because of this, the peasants were somewhat better off as they didnt have to deal with obesity with constipation being almost completely unkown unlike their wealthier overlords who had to deal with those aforementioned ailments along with gout! Shows a degradation of human nutrition even though our resources are better managed and more abundant. In short, this is one scary reality to ponder about!
