Its getting closer and closer to departure and Im feeling ultra excited. Today, we identified a suitable drop in point for the SUP, where the river crosses the road on the way to Big Bay in Santos north. From that point, it may take me 3- 4 days to reach the river mouth and Matanas Village.Ill be travelling thru some of the most inaccessible country and totally isolated while doing so. On one side, there will be towering escarpments pock-marked with bat-filled caves, while on the other; low-lying jungle. The river runs through a UNESCO site and conservation area that is about as pristine as the day it was first created. At night, I will sleep on my SUP or in a hammock if there are suitable trees. Intending to fish for my food but will also be taking military rations in case the fish wont play ball. A Real Bear Grylls style of adventure...just like I used to do when I lived in the Sultanate of Oman. Cant wait! Jason has built me a device that will send an update to Facebook every few hours, so that my location will be shown as I progress with the expedition. If it stops and I dont reappear...please send someone to come and look for me! Thanks.
