Its going to be my fourth full day here in Todos Santos, my new - TopicsExpress

Its going to be my fourth full day here in Todos Santos, my new home-for-now. It took a full week to drive down from Washington, visiting a few friends along the way on some days, and putting in the miles on other days. Parts of that drive were anxious and other parts were unspeakably beautiful. I saw the desert in bloom, and I fell completely in love with the area around Loreto. Being more of a swimmer and kayaker than a surfer at this point, it would have made more sense to have settled on the Sea of Cortez side of the Baja, but Todos Santos is what opened up for me, and Im looking forward to becoming a capable surfer. I dont ever need to be great or even good, but Id like to be okay. Here, the community is very friendly, warm, and welcoming. The sea turtles have begun to come ashore to lay their eggs, and one neighbor saw babies running for the sea a few mornings ago. The surfers are happy because the surf is coming back up. People are still putting things back together after Hurricane Odile. At night, here in the quaint little guest house I am renting, I fall asleep to the sound of the ocean instead of the freeway. Occasionally a geiko laughs. Yesterday morning, a large scorpion was guided back outside by my broom. Until one commits an act of war, Im committed to peace with them. I love being surrounded by sunshine, birds, flowers, and life. I dont know how long I will stay. There may be other countries Id like to try, and for that reason, Im working very hard to fight my impulse to pick up a stray dog or two. Ive started my radical rewrite of the De Vine Winery and Goat Ranch. Im switching it from third person to first person because Im going to focus the story more on one character. I think its going to have a lot of personality.
