Its great to be home for the holidays! Whenever I come home I reconnect with the guitar I learned on. Its my moms guitar from she she was a kid. An excellent Crestwood classical guitar with three steel and three nylon strings. The neck on this thing is thicker than a tree trunk but the sound is crisp and cool. A perfect combination of bright highs and subtle lows. I remember starting to play for the first time and quitting after maybe a month or two because my hands were too small, my fingers werent strong enough, and all my friends were playing sports or video games. It wasnt until about a year later, I picked up the guitar and never set it down again. That was 12 and half years ago. Three months into playing guitar I started singing and playing at the same time. Thats when I moved operation Practice time to the pole barn because I was really bad. Like, really really bad. About two years after that, I started playing harmonica. I started going for the Bob Dylan style but then quickly realized I like John Poppers approach much better. It suit my adhd/high energy more appropriately. From there I did the acoustic, solo, singer-songwriter gig through most of college but after college realized I wanted to make people dance more than I wanted them to sit down and listen intently. So I built my stompbox. Version 1.0 was hideously slapped together in 15 minutes. But it sounded GREAT. I used that beautifully bassy box for three years, a U.S. tour, and several shows in Alaska. Then I decided to downsize while maximizing the boom boom power. And version 2.0 was born. (A nicer more effective version of a mic wrapped in a bed sheet inside a wooden box.) In the midst of the stompbox creation I acquired a high-hat/tambourine combo to offset the lows. I was now able to create a quasi kick drum sound, without the problem of hauling around a kick drum, and a high hat sound. In my mind, these were the two essential parts of a drum kit and everything necessary to produce a boom-chuck-boom-chuck-four-on-the-floor beat people can dance to. Create the beat, people will dance...if you build it, they will come...and all that... Then, last November (2013) I struggled with the decision to augment my performance with either a midiboard or a looping pedal. Im not sure what I was thinking with the midi board. That would have been a very epic and expensive failure. But the looping pedal...that was an awesome decision. Thank you Yoder for the guidance in that decision. The looper took what I was able to do all at the same time with the variety of instruments, and add even more possibilities to create a truly full band sound. A couple more gadgets here, an effects pedal or two here, a gaggle of new mic cords, and now Im ready to take my performing to the next level. Something visually appealing as well as audially (*not a word) appealing. In 2015 I hope that my songs continue to resonate with audiences lyrically as well as rhythmically. I hope that the people that have helped support me in the past continue to do so. I hope that I am able to blend two very different worlds of music together from acoustic-roots-Americana to quasi-electronica. And I hope that the tours become easier to schedule but greater in crowd capacity. For those of you who have helped me and encouraged me to continue playing, performing, and striving to become greater I thank you and I love you and Ill see you soon...ish. Im sure of it. For those of you who I have more recently met, please keep in touch, help spread the word and sound, and let me know if I can ever play music for you or in your region. For everyone, please continue to follow me online and in person for new music and music life updates.
