Its hard to put into words what running a marathon is. Theres nothing quite like it. Its always an awesome and amazing experience but it can also be tough, humbling and honestly not fun. Yesterday was #11 for me. Each one has been a very unique experience. Yesterday wasnt my best race (but not my worst either) and numerous times I even questioned why I do this but it will also be one of my most memorable experiences, in a good way, and Im so glad I did it. Gods plans for me this weekend were to give back and help others in need, but in return in really touched me and made it one of my top favorite marathon experiences. I had the absolute privilege of driving the #1 elite runner who won last years race from STL to Quad Cities. His travel plans were impacted last minute because of the fire in Chicago. Imagine getting a phone call Friday night from the race director if you can do a huge favor. I was more than happy to help out but to my surprise the amazing race director, Joe Moreno (cant say enough good things about this guy), and his committee made me feel so special entire trip! I definitely didnt feel like I deserved to be treated that way for just doing a good deed. From that to the encouragement while running the marathon especially near the end and at the finish line to giving encouragement the night before to someone ready to run their 1st marathon, it all made me realize once again how AWESOME the running community is and that we are all like family.
