Its important to remind everyone how great our employees are. We have a great team that cover a large variety of very important jobs mostly out of the public eye. Sometimes the only attention they get is negative. Someone gets a ticket, or pays a fine, or doesnt t like their water bill, or gets mad at a barricade causing them an inconvenience and the reaction is anger usually directed at these public servants. They are for the most part understanding and tolerant of these negative reactions toward them, but the majority of the time the anger is misdirected and based on a lack of understanding. Our employees work every day of the year. Our police and fire and water and street crews respond in all weather and in all conditions. The treatment plants and pumping stations dont shut down just because its quitting time. When a blizzard hits, the police, fire, and street crews are forced into much more difficult work conditions and dont have the luxury of staying home by the fire. During the massive ice storm in 2009 most of these employes worked throughout the night, in very dangerous and difficult situations. They had families at home that needed them but they honored their responsibilities to the City of a Prairie a Grove often putting their own families second. The streets were like a ghost town with the sole exception of these hardworking men and women who braved terrible conditions to cleared roads and downed power lines, making the City safer. The long hours went on for days with little rest, warmth, or sleep. This was just one of many hard and dangerous situations they deal with and most are never exposed to the public eye. Our employees hold many licenses, certifications, and attend many continuing education training sessions, academies, and specialty schools to meet the requirements. We are proud of all our employees, the fire dept., police dept., court clerks, solid waste crews, street, water, librarians, and administration personnel. We have great employees and we are thankful and appreciative of each and every one.
