Its important to say thank you. Thats why Ed Miliband hosted a reception in Parliament last night to say thank you to some of the thousands upon thousands of local people who make a difference in their communities. I asked Rev Dave Tubby and Wanda Collins to come along. Dave Tubby makes a key contribution in his work as a local Minister and has extended Northfield Baptist Churchs role as a focus for community activity and charity events in and around Northfield town centre. He is also leading the development of the Northfield Stakeholder Group, which brings together local organisations to find better ways of providing advice and support to local people, particularly at a time when Government cuts are having such a big impact on local services. A community activist in the Northfield and Longbridge areas, Wanda Collins is a key figure at Culmington Hall community centre. She has helped many, many local people and groups over the years. Northfield Labour Party recently lent a hand by redecorating Culmington Hall. Wanda also has some interesting family stories to tell. Her family were wartime Polish refugees and today branches of the family can be found in different parts of the UK as well as further afield in the USA and New Zealand. We are glad Wanda stayed in Brum :-) Dave and Wanda make big contributions in their own rights. But they are just two of the many more people who make a difference in South West Birmingham. Ed Milibands words of thanks yesterday are for everyone who give up their time to make that difference. Dave Tubbys post on his visit is here
