Its interesting that so many young guitarists are taught to identify a chord by the way its shaped, what it is called, and how it is symbolized. Very seldom do I get the impression that conventional ways of teaching guitar really emphasize the fact that the essential sound of the chord is the most important thing. Its easy enough to get a quick lesson on YouTube or buy some guitar magazine that claims to show you a lot of really useful licks, but it seems like the ear training aspect is completely glossed over or ignored altogether. The surest way to get hopelessly mixed up with the guitar is to fall into the trap of thinking that the music is equivalent to the series of gestures that we make with our hands in order to produce the music. The physical part is only one aspect of the discipline. Do not mistake the pointing finger for the moon. - Zen saying
